Royal Opera House, London: Given its central position in the Royal Ballet's repertory - and arguably late 20-century dance - it's fitting that the company is opening its 2014-15 season with Kenneth MacMillan's Manon. The late British choreographer created the evening-length dance-drama 40 years ago and, despite a mixed reception at its premiere, it has become, along with his Romeo and Juliet, the keystone of British ballet.
